I've known someone that bought a launch team console like this off of ebay and he wanted to get it repaired by them so that the value would still be fairly high, but he was disappointed when he was told by customer support that they couldn't help him.
I doubt it would be confiscated unless it was an XDK. It would more than likely be rejected as it would/could appear to a repair tech as a tampered with console. Otherwise he would most likely run into problems with an authorized repair when he will be required to register the serial number which more than likely has been by the original LT member. Without proof of transfer/new ownership he will be out of luck for an authorized repair.
I'm just going off of what i was told by someone else during their attempt to get it repaired by microsoft.. I couldn't imagine them repairing the console for him regardless because he wasn't technically the employee sent the console in the first place. To my understanding, they wouldn't send it back to him if he were to send it in because they might be inclined to believe that he stole the console from the original owner. I could only imagine that they would see the console as property of the original owner even if it isnt a development kit. It was originally their property, and they sent it to one of their employees. Then again, I don't know whether or not they have an agreement with the employee stating if they are even allowed to sell it to anyone.
I have receipts from a very legal goodwill purchase and I have already registered it with microsoft and started the repair order. They could certainly send it back due to the potential tampering issue but if they took it from me when I legally purchased it I would certainly take them to court. Once given to the Microsoft Employee it is no longer Microsoft's property. The owner can choose to do whatever he wants with it I assume. I guess I will find out!!
Please keep us updated on this. I'm very interested seeing how that will work out. If thats the case than I'm buying the next RROD launch team console I see haha.
Will do. Not sure when I am going to send it (Will probably try to replace the shitty warranty seal on it first) but I will certainly let you guys know what happens.
You certainly won't get back the same console. They will just put whatever they have on hand in the return box.
Open it and swap the insides. No way to magically repair it without doing so. Cheaper to swap in a working board vs reballing it, are you really going to be playing this 360 in ten years? I wouldn't even fix it honestly.
I tend to agree. I wouldn't even bother with the repair. Trade it off to me. I will give it a good home, lol.
The other point to throw out is that, they'll replace the MFG date sticker along with the seal at the front with the latest one. So it'd lose it's original state. So I agree with ASSEMbler also, best to leave it as is.
Oh, no. I wasn't suggesting that he should try it. I'm just disappointed because my curiosity wont be satisfied XD
I would risk it (potentially) in hopes I could drastically increase its trade value. If I were to send it in I would make darn sure I stripped it of all its LT parts. If it is only worth 75 bucks and won't be more valuable in the future it might be worth a try. Probably not. But maybe.
