    Pfft those aren't stoneage resolutions
Mine is a stoneage resolution 1280x1024!!
    4:3 ftw
But frankly I'd rather this than those huge arse signatures people have on other sites, those things make me sick, you can't tell where the post ends and the signature begins

Ha, I was thinking about starting this exact thread, after seeing one of the yakumo one liners that took up the entire screen in white space.

Do you realize that 1920x1080 is only 30 pixels taller than 1680x1050? Or are we are talking about 1920x1080 on a pivot display / tablet?

Also, can we get signatures to appear after the post, not after the entire left column? Depending on signature size, this can also take up huge spaces, and there's no reason for them to appear after the entire post box.

    edit: also:

I believe that's an extra <dt> tag there that needs to be removed.

At another forum I use, you have the option to set your postbit preference to horizontal or vertical. Vertical as it is here makes the size of the post longer depending on the avatars. Horizontal places all the same stats at the top of the screen so the post appears to use less space.

    Horizontal

    Vertical

Yeah, this really is overkill, I was gonna post it too.... (1920x1080 here)

Besides, I'm sorry Assembler but... I get the feeling you're trying to hook more people in here nowadays (what with the "register now" girl/combine soldier), then how come you're completely ignoring mobile devices that just can't handle any "reasonable" resolutions?

I mean, facebook and its investors/partners are crying about not being able to serve ads properly for these devices because they make up more than 50% of the traffic they get...

Really, we just want to help and are offering to if you let us... we love your site, but the new layout... not so much.

Just placing the sig properly could save 1/3 of the space used by this post, and if you replaced the postnum-pic the entire post would fit in 1/3rd of the space it takes up now.

EDIT: Druid II is right, if you just deleted the empty "dt" that comes right after "<dl class="userinfo_extra">" the join date would be fixed, just tested with Firefox+firebug.

EDIT2: And if you just removed the "clear:both;" from the css for <div class="after_content"> the sigs would be fixed.

To fix that, if you have Stylish or any other use css addons, use:

Yeah but it gets a little stupid if every user has to install an extra addon just for this one site ;)

I did however, just because of the new color scheme.

Also, does anyone know of a way to switch back from that awful WYSIWYG editor to the normal bbcode/textbased one?

And something's clearly not right when you post and then edit that post...

ASSEmbler, I have to agree that maybe the avatars need to be reduced. At home I run my PC in 1080p yet there's still a shit load of wasted space. Also, I hate pikachu :p The odd thing is that my laptop I use for emulation on the big TV runs in 720p yet there's about the same amount of wasted space as the 1080p machine. Browsing in work or on the phone is the worst though. Here's what my work laptop display look like 1084x786 (yeah, it's a really old shitty Vaio).

While it doesn't bother me too much I can understand peoples reactions and it does sort of look ugly. Maybe keep the avatars this size.

Even in 1080p these avatars still look pretty good.

It's not the avatar size pushing the blocks down, it's all these huge useless postcount/moderator/donator images. They ugly, serve no purpose, but ruin the design. And the aformentioned signature stylesheet that pushes it down after the avatar box.

I think postcount/moderator pictures/logos should be kept, just maybe it's time for a different size or style. The Jet Set Radio ones and especially that Pikachu one are way too large.

Why not 100x100/64x64 images that line up next to each other?

That way (almost) no space would be wasted and it'd look cool, a bit like medals, and every user seeing them would instantly know that that person is of a higher rank here.

Or why not medals all the way ;) I kind of like the GTAForums style...

But just to make it clear, those are just my personal opinions, I do not in any way intend to tell ASSEMbler how to run or decorate his site.

    I agree +2
I even resized my avatar to 102x113 pixels. I think that's a good size.

Ultimately it makes little difference, your post still takes up one entire screen on my browser:

1280x800 here, and sometimes all I see is nothing but white space with some blue on the sides.

My ISP is doing some maintenance work and so I was forced to use my android phone to come here... and it's worse than I thought: every (short) post by a mod is followed by over 2 entire blank screens x_X

I'll stop now but I thought this fact should be brought to your attention.

Out of curiosity, what is not considered a stone age resolution? 1680x1505 is fairly modern, seeing as you don't find 1920x1080 laptops left, right and centre.
I've got 2560x1440 on my desktop and 1280x800 on my phone, and it still seems a bit much to be scrolling around for so long. I wouldn't say you're gimping the site, just making it a little more accessible.
Like adding a wheelchair ramp to a building. It doesn't hurt to have it, but it helps the few who need it.

Any of the following Eyefinity setups should provide a full experience for viewing the Assemblergames.com forums:

/g/ not /k/ (should be obvious from the filenames!). The c64 one is actually my stuff.
