Big fan of Tupac. I've done a decent bit of research on his life. Gave a speech about him in College, actually haha. He's definitely missed. Favorite album?
False, sir. Just false. Yeah, GH doesn't count! I still like 2Pacalypse Now. He was relatively young, he was talking about inner-city problems very near to him and it just felt his most politically conscious. Me Against the World is a close second though, or Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory. It just seemed like his lyrics softened up over the years, which makes sense. He wasn't in the same position he was in when he was younger. He was living it up in California away from the troubles he unfortunately faced when he was younger.
Ha! It's the album where there's a kind of perfect sync between the rap and the music. A harmony that's not there in his other albums. And it feels like it all belongs, no track is out of place. I've really tried to learn to like 2Pacalypse now but it never resonated with me. I do like his prequel to 2pacalypse now though, "the lost tapes". Now that's some really raw rhymes and beats and it's politically conscious (somewhat lol). BTW, did you know he was a Socialist?
Illmatic is a solid album, no doubt. Nas has yet to put out something as good and consistent, though. Everybody who worked on that album literally gave Nas the best beats they had. His lyrics and flow compliment the music excellently. Still, I'd take almost any living 2Pac album and even a few Posthumous albums (especially Better Dayz) over any other Nas album. All Eyez on Me would be the perfect follow-up to Me Against the World if it wasn't so overbloated. It just covers too much ground and feels aimless at times. 7 Day Theory honed in a darker edge that I bet Tupac would have capitalized on if he was still with us. It just has a dark energy to it that felt natural and drew you in.
Yeah, he kind of didn't pick up from that, that Nas guy. All Eyez on Me was kind of like Illmatic where everyone donated their best beats. But it's inconsistent and bloated like you say.
Illmatic is one of my favorite rap albums of all time. Although I do find Pac more quotable than Nas. Since I started collecting Vinyl I've wanted to grow a huge collection of Hip Hop, but that's the expensive side of Vinyl Collecting. Pac Albums on Wax are pretty expensive.
