So a friend of mine had managed to find one of these. I haven't seen any like it except similar hardware with the IS-TWL 3DS kits so Im not really sure where this came from. Anyone have any ideas or info of where this came from?

Just got around to trying it with most of the DS family that I have laying around. Sadly nothing happened except my 2ds refused to boot with it plugged in I rechecked with all the others and they had no problems booting though. Spoiler Also here are some shots comparing it to a 3ds and a ds cart I had laying around. I want to do that but it feels really flimsy and I don't want to break it. It just looks like someone got a DS cart-connector-thing and soldered poorly onto it, that's really weird.
Yep just as I suspected. just a re-purposed connector, silly that they used HDMI, DB15 (not DBHD15) would have been a safer choice.. Lucky you didn't damage your DS consoles as HDMI does have Vcc, seeing as it's a cart slot there 'should hopefully' be protection on the input, most likely what saved your DS-butt I'm guessing this is an interface for some sort of kiosk or debug unit, could also be the patch lead for the capture unit (still nothing to do with HDMI on this cable), that goes from the DS to the capture box and feeds the console the game data..
It looks like some Chinese bodge, probably for testing R4 or something without wearing out the system slot.
Interesting take on this and if that were the case, that could mean that you can recreate whatever R4[-esque] card in software, have multiple virtual cards so to say for whatever you need them for (different compatibilities maybe?). If I'm wrong on that train of thought, independently of whether or not this cable is such a testing cable, can somebody please correct me? I'd be very curious to know if one could possibly achieve this and - extending on this - if one could possibly create such a cable themselves. R4 cards are useful and portable, but any retro gamer knows that having multiple options of anything that's out of production is always great. Glassed Silver:mac
for use on Wii dev kit. HDMI is use like data port you can play game from NOE or NOA or NOJ server directly on this console ! edit: or emulate a game.
