Hi all, I just got my first 3do console with some games and I was wondering if there is a way to notice if game is genuine or just pirate copy. Thanks in advance.

well the 3do games are just like any other store bought discs. if it is on a burned disc then it is not genuine.

It could be a silver pressed disc. Loads of Saturn games were done this way. They'd look legit to the average person but of course Saturn pirates don't boot without a mod chip. 3DO games know the other hand had no protection from what I know.

Just look for bubbles in the spindle area. Bootlegs almost always have bubbles.

That Lucienne's Quest is 100% pirate. A number of 3DO games were pirated in this way years ago in Malaysia.

As I said before, it's a pirate. Here is a pic of a legitimate disc.

Looks like the OP has listed this on Ebay? It's a shame there is no indication in the listing or title that the game is a pirate.

It's not hard for pirates to make fancy CD labels. I'm sure if they devoted any kind of real effort to it, they could churn out near perfect copies.

I'm still confused why a pirate would go through the trouble/cost of producing a disc with the title embedded in the ring
    [IMG]

Yet couldn't put forth the effort to make the label the right color.

Let alone for a system like the 3DO instead of something more popular.

Then again, I know very little about the system or pirate tendencies...

They had no copy protection on retail games so pressed silvers would work just fine. Until recently though homebrew had to be used via emulation only till Cody the dev behind frog feast released the tools to sign homebrew disc to run on real hardware. And btw one model did have copy protection. The goldstar model would not boot backups without a swap trick but with the tools released one must sign the game and it will boot retail backups just fine now.

Pirating games on the 3DO must have been the totally golden cow back in the days.
