It works straight out the box! There's a switch on the everdrive which you can switch between PCE and Turbo modes. That's all there is to it :)
That kinda depends on how much you want to spend, but a Duo will allow you to do the most (HuCard and CD games), but will cost more than a regular...
Quick update: It works fine on an unmodified Duo-R. Not sure if there was any doubt about this, but I thought I'd let you know.
