The hdd only turns on when accessed, so either with the PSBBN, the Browser 2.0, Linux, or homebrew software.
I have the PS1 i-mode disc and cable, it's only a webbrowser and email client.
That list is completely accurate, playing ATV4 in 480p on LAN was super fun!
