I think he mounted the CD on the Virtual Macintosh.
It involves disassembling the phone, and finding and removing the flash chip, and creating a dump of the flash chip using specialized hardware.
Couldn't you dump the memory chip inside the phone?

If I am correct, you can just put in a PIPPIN cd into any ol PPC macintosh. But I am not sure.
It can only play special pippinized software, unless you have a dev unit. A PPC mac of the era can run pippin games though.
