A collection without restrictions...

I had some more pictures of my stuff on my harddrive. Hope you enjoy them.

1. Sega Genesis 1 + Sega CD 1 + CCL's Double Pro Fighter 32Mbit

I use ToToTEK's parallel interface to send stuff to and from my development PC. The interface fits in the SNES slot, but works great for Genesis code too. My Genesis has 3 switches. One to select JAP or USA/EUR. One to select 50Hz or 60Hz. One to select cartridge boot or CD boot (the CART_IN line on pin B32). The minijack provides stereo sound, and of course the Genesis is connected using RGB.

2. Samsung Mega Drive II

This it the SPC-1600R Samsung Mega Drive II only released in Korea. NTSC. JAP region.

3. Sega Saturn - Black model 1 unit MK-80020-50

The Saturn is connect to my development PC using a 4in1 EMS Pro Action Replay. My PC actually has two ISA Comms Link cards. One for use with this saturn. One for use with my PlayStation.

I have installed a 50Hz/60Hz switch and a modchip. The modchip was a 21-pin one, but I modified it to a 20-pin one, using the instructions over at the segaxtreme.net forums.

4. Sega Dreamcast
Blue logo HKT-3030 EUR unit. Red logo HKT-3020 USA unit.

Modchip to boot import GD-ROMs. HIT-0400 ethernet adapter/BBA.

I use the blue one in my living room and it is connected using RGB. The red one is in my work room and is connected using a VGA adapter via a KVM-switch to a PC monitor.

5. Nintendo Famicom w/composite-video and STEREO-audio out + FDS

I used the schematics found on the links below. The NES2 has a different PCB then the Famicom of course, but finding the video and audio signals on the Famicom is easy.
http://www.zyx.com/chrisc/nesstereo.html
http://www.gamesx.com/rgbadd/nes2avmod.htm

Both circuits fits on a small piece of Vero Board. I used a NTE289A transistor instead of a 2SC1317 for the video amp. The stereo amp / mixer is really cool too, since you do get more bass if you want to )

6. Super Nintendo + FFE's Super Wildcard DX2 64Mbit + Diskdual

The SWCDX2 is probably my best investment. I just love it. I also have Bung's Game Doctor SF7 128Mbit with DSP1 adaptor and CCL's Pro Fighter X 32Mbit, so I can compare. The SWCDX2 runs everything, and have 2 parallel ports. It is connected to both my PC and to the Diskdual (with CDROM and harddisk) at the same time. I just love it!!!

I have installed the CIC-disable switch, and a 50Hz/60Hz. My system is PAL, but I use RGB.

7. Nintendo 64 + N64 DD + Mr. Backups Z64 (rev 3) 256Mbit with 750MB IDE ZIP

NUS-001 (JPN) + NUS-010 (N64 DD) + Z64 256Mbit. Sweet!

A Mario 64 PAL cart boots fine with EMS Passport Plus III

I got RGB wired up!

...and soldered together the RGB amp.

The video chip in my NUS-001 (EUR) and NUS-001 (JPN)

I used the RGB mod guides found at these links:
http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/ni...ndo_64_rgb.htm
http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/ni...g-booster1.htm

Used NTE229 transistors instead of BF494. Worked great!

I am still looking for Bung's Doctor V64jr 512Mbit, since the Z64 can not easily be connected to my PC.

8. Nintendo Gamecube + GBA-player + BBA + ViperGC modchip

Boots stuff from SD cards, LAN or small DVD-Rs. PAL unit with RGB output.

9. Nintendo DS and Neo Geo Pocket Color

My DS's firmware is "FlashMe" modified. The picture above shows the pink/white sticker which covers the two points you need to short-circuit to flash the DS.

I have a Pocket Linker for the Neo Geo Pocket Color with a couple of 32Mbit flashcards.

10. Sony Playstation

I have already posted pictures of my four colorful PSXs in this forum. This is my SCPH-7502 which is connected to my PC. The PAR is flashed with Caetla 0.35 and is just sweet. I also have a Xplorer cart flashed with Caetla 0.35 which I use with my laptop, since the Xplorer cart has a standard parallel interface. A 7-wire "stealth" modchip is installed.

This is the first Japanese SCPH-1000 model with a s-video connector. The BIOS allow the swaptrick to be used from the audio-CD menu on this model.

United Colors of PlayStation
DTL-H1001, DTL-H1201
DTL-H3001, SCPH-5903
Anyone got a spare Midnight Blue??? ;-P

SCPH-102C PSone with stealth modchip + internal VCD card

U10 is the Winbond W9923QF VCD decoder IC. U8 is the Winbond W9952QP TV encoder IC.

This board was quite some hassel to install. The instructions start with "Step1: Take off FB401, FB402, FB502 parts". These are three surface mounted fuses, that you need to desolder to route the composite video and stereo audio lines through the VCD card. The card piggybacks on the ROM chip (IC 102) to interface with the system bus

11. Sony PlayStation 2 (V0 - Japanese SCPH-15000) with Ghost 2 modchip

Ghost 2 is one of the few modchip still in production that works on the V0 PS2s.

Easy to install, but you need a steady hand when you do the CD controller.

12. NEC PC-Engine DUO-R

My NEC PC-Engine DUO-R (lower unit) and Fujitsu FM Towns Marty

Before modification

After modification

My RGB cable

I have set the system to USA mode, and installed RGB output. The DIN-8 connector is compatible with the standard DIN-5 connector, but has RGB as well. I also installed a switch to select composite video (with sync) or just composite sync (for arcade monitors).

I used the guide over at:
http://www.gamesx.com/rgbadd/duorgb.php

13. Microsoft Xbox rev 1.0
Microsoft Xbox v1.0 with Xecutor 3 modchip and Xecutor Control Panel.

I have replaced the fans to silence this model.

I do not support piracy! ...but I love to program and explore! ..and hate restrictions

Regards..

Some nice mods there :)

Isn't that identical to a PAL MegaDrive 2 board? The soldermask's a tiny bit different, that's about it.

Nice collection though :)

Yeah, they are indeed very similar:

The left part of the picture is from my Korean NTSC Samsung MD II.

The right part of the picture is from a European PAL Sega MD II. I got the picture from the site below, since I do not have the European MD II myself:
http://www.mikeg2.freeserve.co.uk/ma...l/md2lang.html

Anyway, my Korean unit is connected like a Japanese one. Pin 107 on the 315-xxxx chip is connected to ground. On the US and European units pin 107 is connected to +5V.

What's all that stuff do on the front of your Xbox? I'm talking about the myriad of switches etc.

Interesting stuff. I managed to mod my Saturn but that's as far as I got... get a bit scared with the new/more expensive things.

The Xecutor X3 modchip has a 2MB FlashROM, which you can split into banks, so you can have multiple BIOSes. The various BIOSes are usually 1MB or smaller. The latest X3 BIOS from Team Xecutor is 1MB. The famous Cromwell BIOS often used for Xbox Linux is 256kB.

The oval clear (white looking) button lets you write protect the FlashROM.
The four clear round buttons lets you choose BIOS (memory bank).
The red LED is HD. The green LED is LAN.

On the far right the panel has two extra USB ports. Very nice!

The LCD is supported by many homebrew applications, such as the Xbox Media Center.

Read more on:
http://www.teamxecuter.com/

My 10cent worth of modding advice:
Get a defect PlayStation, PCI video card or something else with an IC with many tiny legs. Spill solder between a couple of IC legs. Practice removing the solder using desoldering braids and some no-clean flux. Then practice lifting legs from the PCB. Use a multimeter to check for short-circuits. Have fun!

Famicom video+stereo pics added

I have added some more pictures to the first message in this thread.

When I recently got a Famicom, with only RF output, something had to be done. Now it has composite video and STEREO sound output I like it!!!

Cheers!

does the Z64 really works with a 750 MB ZIP drive ?? I have heard you can add a 250 MB ZIP Drive with a modified BIOS, but I never thought it would run with the new 750 MB Iomega drive.

btw, very impressive collection :)

My Z64 use the unofficial firmware 2.18c and a 750 ZIP drive. However, all my ZIP disks and other ZIP drives are all either 100MB or 250MB. The 750 drive lets me use all my old ZIP disks, but I have not tested 750 disks yet. I can buy a 750 disk this week and try to backup a few games to it to see if it works...

I got a normal silver Nintendo DS. US model NTR-001. The firmware is patched with the FlashMe hack to allow DS files to boot from a standard GBA flashcart. To do the FlashMe hack, for the first time, you need a PassMe device or a WLAN card compatible with the WifiMe software. More info on these links:
http://ds.gcdev.com/dsfirmware/
http://www.dspassme.com/FlashMe.shtml

After the DS is FlashMe hacked, then just do a copy /b ndsloader.bin+homebrew.nds homebrew.gba. Write homebrew.gba as the first file on a GBA flashcart, put the cart in the DS and turn it on

Check out this link:
http://www.robwebb.clara.co.uk/backup/

You can also use these devices to run your own homebrew programs. Both the DPF and SWCDX2 can be connected to a PC (the DPF needs an adapter), which makes them more suitable for development than copiers that only reads floppy disks.

New N64 RGB mod + N64 DD pics added

Recently I replaced my European N64 with a Japanese N64, which could be RGB modified. I have updated the first message in this thread (part 6) with some pictures of my current N64 setup which includes a N64 DD.

Thanks for the feedback!
