Try getting a Skyline registered in the US. By the time it's been certified you could buy a used Ferrari for the same price.

What are we trying to start?
You made a post and got replies. Your post was kinda pointless from my point of view and kinda silly
cos as even you say japan isnt the best place to get your car....
Also your post doesnt seem like you want to actually have a chat about things. Most your posts seem to be you either trying to bump up your post count or one liners telling us what your up to.

Don't get me wrong, i like Nissan Skyline. But the car is simply too damn problematic. The suspensions gives problems constantly.
Lancer Evolution? It's a great car. A friend of mine has an Evo VII, and i had the chance to drive it. Great steering, amazing power. But too much money.
Anyway, from what Yakumo told, it's rather expensive to have a car in Japan. Lots of taxes and stuff like that.

Buying the car is cheap enough but yeah the tax is a bitch and parking spaces too. THe strange thing is that a used big car is sometimes cheaper than a used small car because the small car has really cheap tax and insurance while the big car is expensive for everything. Sometimes I wonder what the Japanese goverment actually do when they make these crazy rules up.

$30k for Lancer EVO VIII isn't too bad considering what you're getting. The new MR edition costs approx $35k.
I have my eye on an EVO for my next car....oh yes!

Well, a used EVO VIII costs here in Brazil for about 160.000 Reais. The Evo VII has about 260HP, despite being just a spiced Lancer. A brand new EVO VIII costs almost 200.000 Reais!
Same theory is true about the Xsara. My Citroën Xsara VTS, with 180HP is just a spiced version of the normal Xsara. The difference is that it costed 18.000 Reais.
Living in a big city with traffic jams and so on, that is perfect value for looks, and performance. Why bother having a 200+ hp car?
PS: I'm not saying the Xsara VTS is a better car than a EVO VII. It would be too damn stupid if i said something like that. But if you compare performance, and price (at least in Brazil), the Evo is just too expensive.

I feel sorry for you merkins -_- Japanese imports have been common in Ireland for the past 20 years or so, but then again we drive on the right (i.e. left) side of the road for starters ^_^.
With normal family cars it's a damn sight cheaper to get an import than a local second-hand car. Can't really compare the prices of most of the sports cars though as they didn't sell most of them here in the first place!
Here is a link to one of my local importers - kinda weird that they're mainly a Kia dealer (cheap-ass Korean cars), and the main page of their website shows a picture of a Nissan Silvia! They don't seem to have that many imports right now - any of the cars in the "used" section without number plates are Japanese imports, for example the '98 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V (€19,500) and the '94 Nissan Pulsar GTi-R for €10,750 - looks like quite a lot for such an old car, but Japanese imports are usually in scarily good condition.

Sorry - I meant more "cheap" than "ass" ^_^ - Kia have come a long way in recent years... thank God they stopped making the Kia Pride (a.k.a. Ford Festiva/Mazda 121)!
Still, my quest is to get a Daihatsu Naked Turbo G...

The Americanized EVO8 is, imo, a bastardized version. I'm seeing used Evo8s being sold for $18k and up, but no more than $25k. They depreciate in value compared to other japanese imports, and since its an "american" mitsubishi, you can't trust them in reliability. Of course, this is just an opinion based on personal experience.
