PAL Amiga CD32 on a NTSC TV

I am kind of embarrased to ask this, but i dont know anything about the diferences between NTSC and PAL screens. Anyway, my question is:
What do i get if i connect a PAL Amiga CD32 to a NTSC screen?, do i get at least an image with a black border, or is there no image at all?.
I am about to get a PAL CD32 for a very cheap price, but if i cant play it at all, i may pass on it :Hangman: , but as a console collector, i want to explore all the posibilities before doing so.
Thanks in advance for your replies, and excuse my english, wich seems to be getting worse every day :smt022 .

uh

well, with my ps2 and gamecube the screen is in black and white, but the screen scrolls across the screen super fast and you cant see anything (just like 20% of the whole screen all over the screen scrolling down really fast) :smt022

sorry

won't work.. NTSC is 60hz, PAL is 50hz, so you either need an (often pricey) scan rate converter, or you need to pick up a tv/monitor that can do both (rare) .. i used to have a commodore 1084s monitor for my amiga, and its the only tv/crt i've ever owned (or seen) that could do both.

If you have an RGB cable, you can play 60/30hz games on a 50/25hz TV. All you need is a TV that supports RGB signals. But I dont know if it's the other way around.

another option would be the SX32 expansion that plugs into the back of the CD32 and turns it into an Amiga 1200-like system - ex. with extra I/O ports including a VGA out(!)... But sadly i have no idea where you can find one (excluding eBay maybe) of those things or how expensive they are now :(
Some more info: http://amiga.emugaming.com/sx32.html

Can't US TVs handle PAL? Seems weird because here in the UK most TVs have been dual PAL/NTSC for well over 5 five years :smt017

it makes more sense to have an NTSC switchable tv in a PAL country, as probably 80% of all recorded media (as well as consumer electronics overall) originates in NTSC countries.. when american demand for deutsch welle and bollywood movies becomes significant, maybe you'll see switchable tvs over here too...

good case in point, the amiga 500 had pal/ntsc switching added to later models (dont recall offhand if it was the 500+ or ECS or whichever), as there was far more PAL software than NTSC due to their greater popularity in europe, so commodore released a pal/ntsc switchable monitor, the 1084S. :smt027

Hey, abionic, that 1080 monitor for the amiga 500 that you mention, is it compatible with the cd32?. I may get one if it is.

commodore 1084S should be compatible with _any_ device with standard A/V outs, PAL or NTSC.. i _think_ it might even have an RF in too, i dont recall entirely, so yes it should work with the CD32, just be sure its the 1084S, i think there were other models that werent switchable.

I have a an old 1084ST sat under my desk at work, I use it as a foot rest :) I used it in the past to hook up consoles when I could get away with playing games at work (ahhh, the days!) ANYWAY, I've just looked on the back, and it has RGB, Chroma and Co-ax inputs so yes, it would be a good choice for a CD32.

its also worth mentioning, the 1084S has by far the finest screen id ever seen on a ntsc monitor / television up until the flatscreen trinitrons started comin out.. it's essentially a really really nice 13" tv with lots of inputs.
